Qatar Foundation attracts huge interest at Qatar Career Fair

Hundreds of eager graduates took advantage of the resources available at the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) stand to boost their chances of finding a job at Qatar Career Fair. 

A steady stream of applicants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to meet with a career counsellor who could help them understand their vocational interests. Ohoud Al Dossari explained that her visit to the QF stand had helped her to discover that she would like to manage her own business. 

“I just spoke to the career counsellor and realised that I have a strong interest in opening my own business someday and becoming an entrepreneur. I currently work as a media researcher, but this counselling session helped me plan ahead and understand that I can still do my job while seeking further opportunities to grow,” said Ohoud, 30, who has a bachelor’s degree in media studies from Qatar University. 

 Job seekers also received plenty of useful information about how to answer tough interview questions, plan their career, write a winning CV and learn about the many educational and professional programmes at QF. Participants who were uncertain about their career paths took a psychometric test so they could reassess their future.

“We are very pleased with the high level of interest and proactive approach shown by Qatari youth at this year’s Qatar Career Fair. They have shown a genuine desire for self-improvement and that is something that we always encourage,” said Ghanim Al Naimi, Director of Talent Sourcing and Development at QF. “Our commitment to training and hiring capable Qatari nationals continues to grow year-on-year as QF’s rate of Qatarisation is of utmost importance to us.” 

Many graduates came to the exhibition for the sole purpose of furthering their academic education by applying for scholarships and financial support. 

“I heard that QF has a programme to help Qataris progress in their career, so I came here today to find out about getting sponsored to complete my master’s degree. I already have offers from a few universities and I am hopeful that I will be able to complete my graduate studies in September. I would like to do my master’s in International Business Management,” said Mohammed Derah, 28, who is currently completing a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from a university in the UK. 

One of QF’s key mandates is to provide the nation’s youth with training to help kick-start their careers.

Abdullah Al Emadi, a graduate trainee in the education division at QF, was happy to share his experience with other job seekers. He completed an undergraduate degree in graphic design at Virginia

Commonwealth University in Qatar before joining the trainee programme – an initiative he highly recommends. 

“There are countless opportunities for development at QF, which is the key to a rewarding career. There are also numerous conferences and workshops to attend that are all aimed at helping us gain a depth of knowledge in our field,” he said.
