In preparation for the “Shell Eco-marathon Asia” Abu Dhabi University inks 12-month MOU with Shell

With a team of more than 20 of its engineering students gearing up to participate in the upcoming “Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2017” in Singapore, Abu Dhabi University joined forces with “Shell” through a 12-month Memorandum of Understanding that aims to further enhance participating students’ innovative, technical, communication and business skills. The MoU was signed at a ceremony held on the University’s Abu Dhabi campus by Ali Al Janabi, Vice President and Country Chairman Shell Abu Dhabi, and Dr. Terry Motiuk, Vice Chancellor for Financial and Administrative Affairs of Abu Dhabi University, in the presence of a number of officials from both parties.
During the signing ceremony, Vice Chancellor for Financial and Administrative Affairs of Abu Dhabi University, Dr. Terry Motiuk expressed the University’s pride in this partnership especially as it will allow ADU’s participating team of engineering students to showcase their skills while competing with their peers from universities all across the world. “The annual world-renowned Shell Eco-marathon represents a unique challenge for our team of young engineers, as it encourages them to innovate, design, build and drive energy efficient vehicles. Furthermore, according to the MOU, Shell has dedicated a financial contribution of USD 10,000 to the ADU student team participating in the marathon, which will be utilized as part of the costs that go into building their flagship ultra- energy efficient vehicle, and ensuring its compliance to all the rules and regulations of the marathon. Perhaps one of the most distinguishing features of this MOU between Abu Dhabi University and Shell is that it gives way to a variety of potential future collaborations in different fields such as developing joint research projects, organizing scientific conferences, and exploring innovative joint ideas in general”, added Dr. Motiuk.
On his part, Ali Al Janabi, Vice President and Country Chairman Shell Abu Dhabi, said “We are very proud of our partnership with Abu Dhabi University, and the collaboration that resulted in signing this MOU. The Shell Eco-marathon competition inspires young engineers of the future to turn their vision of sustainable mobility into reality. It also sparks passionate debate about what could one day be possible for cars on the road. We wish the ADU team all the success in the upcoming competition, and more future opportunities to utilize their skills at finding innovative solutions for smarter mobility.”

The dream began with the Charter of Abu Dhabi University in the year 2000, After three years of planning, the university opened its doors in September 2003, to an entering class of 1,000 students on its two campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Unlike other colleges and universities in the UAE, ADU undertook the measures necessary to ensure that all of the degree programs it would offer had secured accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in advance of any students enrolling in them.
