Oryx Rotana goes Vegan on Earth Day

Oryx Rotana, the five star luxury business hotel in Doha, took its first step towards environmental sustainability by celebrating Earth Day with a special Vegan menu. More than 250 hotel staff participated in the celebrations held at the Colleagues’ Dine Inn where everything served, from appetizers and main course to desserts was vegan. 

Commenting on this initiative, Antoraj Mariasusai, Director of Human Resources, said:  "A vegan diet reduces the risk for chronic degenerative diseases such as obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and certain types of cancer. Earth Day is more than just a single day: We have started it now & will continue to hold it on a monthly basis."

"People are drawn to veganism by all sorts of motives. Some of us want to live longer, healthier lives or do our part to reduce pollution. Others have made the switch because we want to preserve Earth’s natural resources or because we have always loved animals." he added.

It is also known that well-planned plant-based diets are rich in protein, iron, calcium and other essential vitamins and minerals. The plant-based sources of these nutrients tend to be low in saturated fat, high in fibre and packed with antioxidants, helping mitigate some of the modern world's biggest health issues like obesity, heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Vegan diets can be healthy for anyone of any age.

Lana Jwainat, Director of Marketing and Communications at Oryx Rotana Hotel, contributed: “From the environmental perspective, recycling household rubbish and cycling to work helps us live a greener life. And, one of the most effective things an individual can do to lower their carbon footprint is to avoid all animal products."
