Nawras Goodwill Journey provides equipment to help people in Ibri and Adam

On day four of the Nawras Goodwill Journey, volunteers arrived in the Wilayats of Ibri and Adam to surprise and delight people with much needed wheelchairs as well as numerous house hold items to help families. Nawras Goodwill Journey Messengers brought air conditioning units, water coolers, televisions, DVD players, children’s books and educational CD-ROMS to enhance the activities at the Omani Women’s Associations, run in coordination with the Ministry of Social Development.

Khalid Al Zadjali, Nawras Goodwill Journey Leader and Manager – Protocol, said, “The donations in Ibri and Adam will improve the daily lives of people with special physical needs and help them to lead a more fulfilling lifestyle by achieving their goals and being more easily able to integrate with other members of society. We are also investing in skills building programmes and developing new income generating opportunities, in line with the Ministry of Social Development’s long term plans for training individuals and educating families across the country.”

Noora Mohammed Al Abri, President of the Omani Women’s Association in Wilayat Ibri, said, “Thanks to Nawras, the new equipment will allow us to conduct our activities more efficiently. The positive impact that the wheelchairs will make to people with special physical needs represents a new sense of freedom and we are grateful to Nawras for providing this opportunity for many with similar situations and conditions.”

The Omani Women’s Associations and Ministry of Social Development are responsible for providing day care and rehabilitation services for people with different needs. Backed by Royal Decree, care services in the Sultanate are committed to preserving the rights of disabled members of society by offering educational and vocational opportunities. The donations from Nawras contribute to these projects and assist people in reaching their potential.

Continuing the theme of this year’s Nawras Goodwill Journey, ‘Multaqeen’, meaning ‘we will see you again’, Nawras Goodwill Journey messengers will revisit Ibri and Adam to meet the community and see how the donations have changed their lives. By adopting Multaqeen, Nawras has made a promise to the community to ensure the donations are used to deliver long term benefits to each Governorate the Journey visits this year.

Tomorrow marks the conclusion of the first stage of the Nawras Goodwill Journey as volunteers return to Muscat and reflect upon their experiences of the last week. They will reload the convoy in preparation for the second group of volunteers to help even more people across the Sultanate in their pleasingly different Nawras way.

The Nawras Goodwill Journey is the company’s annual voyage of generosity and compassion. This year, the convoy is travelling 5400 kilometres to shed light on improving the lives of over 1000 people during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
