Nawras Goodwill Journey 9 concludes in Dhofar with donations to Omani Women’s Associations

Nawras Goodwill Journey messengers arrived in Salalah for the final stop in this year’s voyage of compassion and generosity. Distributing sewing machines and household items to the Omani Women’s Associations in Al Mazyoona and Mirbat, the Nawras Goodwill Journey messengers continued to support Ministry of Social Development training and empowerment programmes for ladies. 

Fatma Mahad Al Amri, Head of the Omani Women’s Association, said, “The donation of sewing machines by the Nawras Goodwill Journey volunteers will help us offer enriching training programmes for local women. We aim to increase opportunities for self-employment by improving skills, building confidence and contributing to the growth of SMEs in the local economy.” 

Ahlam Saood Al Busaidi, Nawras Sales Champion and seventh time Nawras Goodwill Journey messenger, said, “This great initiative began nine years ago when a group of Nawras people decided to do something special for the less fortunate members of our society.  It has continued every year since 2005 and I am so glad to have joined in to share time and donations with local communities across the country. Travelling on the Goodwill Journey has been a humbling experience for me and I do hope our caring actions will help to change the lives of many people in Oman.” 

During the second leg of the Nawras Goodwill Journey the team has travelled from Muscat to Salalah in five days, stopping in Ibra, Al Qabil, Wadi Bani Khalid and Al Duqm before reaching Al Mazyoona and Mirbat in Dhofar. The volunteers have provided air conditioners, washing machines, water coolers, sewing machines and kitchen utensils to assist with the services offered by the Omani Women’s Associations which improve the daily lives of people in these areas. 

Donations of vital supplies and equipment to charitable organisations will support long term education and skills training programmes run by the Ministry of Social Development for the benefit of those who need a helping hand. 

Being away from their families during Ramadan and fasting during the journey has proved to be a challenge that each member of the Nawras Goodwill Journey has embraced. Volunteers have shown the true spirit of the season through their generosity and compassion, by giving up their time to make a positive impact on more than 800 families and 4,000 individuals in communities throughout Oman. 

As this year’s Nawras Goodwill Journey comes to a close and the convoy returns to Muscat, the two teams of volunteers have driven a combined total of 5,400 kilometres to reach communities across the length and breadth of the Sultanate.
