In a first-of-its-kind step toward facilitating better education opportunities in remote areas of the Kingdom, through The Princess Alia Foundation initiative "Sustainable Education Through Renewable Energy" Al-Ghwebbeh Secondary Schools, located in the Jordan Valley district, welcomed the inauguration of a solar energy project designed to generate electricity for the two campuses. The inauguration ceremony was held on November 5th under the patronage of HRH Princess Alia bint Al Hussein, and was organized by National Arab Motors – Kia Jordan, the official sponsor and financier of the project.

The ceremony was held at Al-Ghwebbeh Secondary School for Boys & Girls, attended a representative from the Ministry of Education; President of Kia Motors Corporation, Middle East and Africa, Mr. Alex Chung; Vice Chairman of National Arab Motors Mr. Mohammed Alayyan; in addition to a number of prominent local media representatives.

This landmark project is the result of a cooperative undertaking by National Arab Motors, the Princess Alia Foundation, and the Ministry of Education.

Taking advantage of Jordan’s sunny climate, which sees more than 300 days of sunshine each year and an average of eight hours of sunshine per day, the project seeks to enable underprivileged public schools to meet their electricity needs through the use of clean, efficient and low-cost photovoltaic energy. Additionally, the project aims to raise awareness about renewable energy in remote areas of Jordan, increasing the capacity of communities and creating potential for job opportunities in the field.

The project will also help lower the national energy bill, reduce carbon emissions resulting from traditional methods of electricity generation, and support national efforts to conserve the environment.

HRH Princess Alia praised National Arab Motors’ sponsorship and full adoption of the project, saying, “Through its support of our message, Kia Jordan has made a significant contribution to raising the level of environmental awareness in the Kingdom. By sponsoring this project, the company has also helped provide a better learning environment for our students, while encouraging them to adopt behavior that is environmentally conscious.

We hope that the example set by National Arab Motors will be followed by other companies in Jordan’s private sector.”

National Arab Motors’ Vice Chairman Mr. Mohammed Alayyan also commented on the occasion, saying, “We are proud to contribute to and support national efforts to employ alternative, clean sources of energy.

Our decision to sponsor this project reflects our desire to help communities in remote areas of the Kingdom better address the challenges they face and, through their successes, set an example for others. Following in the footsteps of Kia Motors Corporation and its strong sense of social and environmental responsibility, we at National Arab Motors are deeply committed to supporting national initiatives that contribute to the growth and advancement of the country.”

The Asalah Company, which specializes in sustainable energy, is responsible for the implementation of the project, including the supply, installation and operation of solar modules to generate electricity for Al-Ghwebbeh Secondary School for Boys and Al-Ghwebbeh Secondary School for Girls.
