Msheireb Properties and Qatar Charity launch Box Appeal campaign, to coincide with International Workers' Day

Msheireb Properties, in partnership with Qatar Charity will stage a national campaign to collect donations of everyday essential items to construction workers in recognition of their contribution to the construction of Qatar’s infrastructure.

The Box Appeal is the first campaign of its kind in Qatar that involves the public with collecting and donating items such as clothing and toiletries, which many take for granted but are often luxuries for the less affluent.

Taking place alongside International Workers’ Day, the Box Appeal campaign debuts on the 1^st of May and runs for a whole month. Dedicated donation boxes will be available at a variety of locations in Doha, including Qatar Charity office, Msheireb Properties’ headquarters, as well as dedicated kiosks at City Center, Villagio and Hayat Plaza. Residents who wish to take part in the campaign will be asked to collect the boxes and return them with daily essential items and toiletries. Campaign organisers will then ensure the boxes are distributed to construction workers across Qatar.

Mohammed Masooud Jarallah Al-Marri, Projects Director, Msheireb Properties, said: “This initiative is closely aligned with Msheireb Properties’ values of corporate social responsibility and commitment towards the welfare of workers. Through this appeal, we hope to recognize the labour force in Qatar and highlight their essential and often unsung role in Qatar’s ongoing development.”

“It is easy to forget that many construction workers can experience challenging lifestyle conditions, such as living away from their families for long periods before being able to travel home again. By sharing these everyday lifestyle items the majority of us take for granted, we hope to bring improvements to this vital community on whom we all depend, and who are helping to build the future of Qatar.” Added Al-Marri.

As a socially responsible company, Msheireb Properties supports sustainable worthy social and humanitarian causes. In addition to the Box Appeal campaign, Msheireb Properties has strengthened its community involvement by launching a number of initiatives, such as offering free IT training for construction workers to enhance their professional skill sets, the ‘Safety in the Work Place’ campaign to foster a positive safety culture among construction contractors and workers at the main Msheireb site, as well as Iftar tents organized for construction workers during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

“The Box Appeal strengthens good will in our community and further secures the welfare of local workers and helps improve their living standards. The campaign complements our recent social initiatives and community projects and will focus on different themes each year,” added Al Kuwari, who encouraged local businesses and civil society to participate in the campaign and support the efforts of Qatar Charity and Msheireb Properties in community development.

Items that can be donated include: caps, deodorants, toothbrushes, toothpaste, towels, combs, shampoo, soap, hand sanitizers and socks. All donated items must be brand new.
