LG: Why the World Prefers OLED
LG Electronics (LG) has established itself as a market leader in OLED production, gaining strong foothold across markets with the development of its advanced technology.
In 2013, LG introduced its first commercial OLED TVs, and has since gone on to expand the array of products integrated with OLED technology for enhanced viewing. According to market research by IHS, over four million LG OLED TVs have been sold within only six years of mass-production. The company plans to grow OLED TV sales to 25 percent of total TV sales this year, with recent panel production plans announced to triple by 2021, to 10 million units. This extraordinary market growth is reflected by the 15 companies who adopted OLED technology worldwide and points to well-founded confidence in OLED as the future of TV technology.
Earlier this month at its annual InnoFest MEA event, LG introduced its latest lineup of OLED TVs set to arrive in the local market this year. From 4K to 8K, in standard, ‘Wallpaper’ and ‘Rollable’ forms factors, LG is constantly innovating its OLED capabilities to meet consumer demand across markets.
Keen to provide consumers with more immersive experiences, LG has collaborated with Dolby, being the first TV manufacturer to adopt Dolby Vision HDR into its OLED TVs and integrating Dolby Atmos audio capabilities into its flagship line-up. Consumers can now enjoy a cinematic experience at home, with Dolby’s revolutionary technology, providing depth of color, clarity and contrast.
LG’s OLED TVs can also be used in conjunction with the company’s advanced Soundbars, which feature Dolby Audio to make sound flow around the room and its audience with breathtaking realism. Many of the world’s leading mobile phone, tablet and smart watch manufacturers are also using OLED technology to stay ahead of the race and supply consumers with more captivating and vivid display capabilities.
OLED continues to dominate the electronics industry, due to its potential to provide more accurate, nature-like color representation, alongside increased operating efficiency. LCD screens require LED backlighting, which has limitations in terms of delivering true black, due to the panel structure. In comparison, OLED technology can achieve ‘true black’. This is accomplished by controlling light at pixel level, which allows for greater precision and more realistic color.
LG is committed to providing consumers with the best when it comes to TV viewing and will continue to invest in technologies that secure its leadership in the premium TV category.
