Insight Dubai Conference tackles human trafficking issues

Students from around the world along with Dubai Women’s College students tackled on the 4^th day of Insight Dubai Conference the Human Trafficking issue.

The students worked together in small groups to discuss the causes and consequences of human trafficking, particularly that of women and children, and tried to come up with solutions to issues concerning prevention, protection, prosecution and reintegration. After working in small groups, the students were tasked with producing a poster to raise awareness of the alarmingly prevalent and rapidly growing business some have referred to as ‘modern day slavery’.  

Dr. Anita Sunil at Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, attended the conference as a guest lecturer and discussed human trafficking in the UAE and what the government is doing to combat the problem. The UAE authorities are aware of the trafficking of girls and women in the region and the Dubai Police established the Department of Human Rights Care last year to investigate trafficking and provide support facilities to those who fall victim to this crime in the UAE. The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children works closely with the Dubai Police in providing assistance to such individuals.
