Affirming its commitment to playing an active role in UAE’s sustainability drive, Imdaad, a Dubai-based integrated facilities management (FM) solutions provider with a strong presence in the GCC, has launched a new biofuel station in Dubai, which will provide an eco-friendly source of fuel to run Imdaad’s waste compactor trucks. The announcement was made on the sidelines of the 11th edition of the FM Expo.

Located within the company’s facility in Jebel Ali, the biofuel tank has been provided by Lootah Biofuels, a supplier chosen by Imdaad based on their extensive experience in the alternative fuel sector. The tank will be routinely inspected and maintained by Trakhees, the regulatory arm of Dubai’s Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation with a dedicated Environment, Health and Safety department.

Mahmood Rasheed, COO, Imdaad, said: “As a leading integrated facilities management company, we understand our responsibility towards the environment and are dedicated in our efforts to align our business strategy with the UAE’s ongoing drive for sustainability. Biofuel as an alternative source of energy has proven to reduce greenhouse gases, and consequently, cause lesser pollution. The installation of the new biofuel station is part of our commitment to harnessing sustainable energy solutions within the portfolio of FM services offered to our clients. It is critical that our practices remain aligned with conservation of the ecosystem and communities that are impacted by industrial activities.”

Imdaad’s efforts are also in line with UAE’s Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to increase clean energy use from 25% to 50% and reduce carbon footprint during power generation by 70% over the next three decades.

Preparations for the new biofuel station started well in advance of the official launch, when experts at Imdaad conducted successful tests to operate five waste compactor trucks on biofuel in place of diesel. Assessing the effectiveness of biofuel derived from food waste and diesel, tests concluded that the large-sized vehicles using the hybrid fuel functioned with optimum performance and emitted lesser harmful fumes compared to a 100% diesel mode.
