IBQ supports talented students for a great cause at Doha College’s Style Aid 2012

Style Aid 2012, in its second edition that is sponsored by IBQ, was held yesterday at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Doha with the presence of hundreds of families and friends of the Doha College. A fashion initiative championed entirely by the Doha College students, Style Aid is an annual style and fashion event with a great philanthropic essence. This year’s proceeds will be donated to Qatar Charity and will be used to help build homes and wells in Somalia.
Style Aid 2012 fashion evening saw chic and modern wear designed and modeled by Doha College students. The event, organized by 200 students, was supported by photographers, choreographers, entertainment talent and event managers who are also members of the student body.
George Nasra, Managing Director of IBQ said: “For us at IBQ, corporate social responsibility is synonymous with education, awareness and empowerment in the aim of promoting a better community. Style Aid, as the name aptly describes, is an event that helps promote local talent and, more importantly, reaches out to societies in need across the world. CSR is a key priority on our agendas at IBQ. It is strongly embedded in our corporate culture and we seek to support these initiatives, programmes and activities that serve this purpose.”
Doha College Principal, Mark Leppard said “This is a wonderful event that captures the true qualities of education at Doha College. To have students lead every aspect of this exciting and unique event means that they will learn and develop beyond the classroom. I am extremely proud of the achievement from students and staff and I want to thank IBQ for their continued support of Doha College”.
IBQ has been committed to spearhead or sponsor a series of events that further awareness and education and has therefore partnered with various organizations across the country to achieve this objective.
Similarly to Style Aid, IBQ has previously sponsored the Catwalk Talents Event, a talent and fashion show held at Katara Cultural Village in February 2012 and organized by Stenden University and Smile Events. Proceeds raised at the Catwalk Talents Events were donated to the children Cancer Hospital of Egypt.
Additionally, IBQ is strongly associated with the Schools without Accidents campaign; the Lycee Bonaparte French school in Qatar and the ICC-One Toastmasters to name a few.
Style Aid 2011, with the theme of children helping other youngsters in need, saw models striking the pose dressed up in the most fashionable designs for spring and summer at The Pearl-Qatar. Proceeds went to the Qatar Orphan Foundation, Dhreima, and the SOS Children’s Villages. Winning designer walked away with a QAR 1,000 gift voucher from Virgin Megastore.
The idea of Style Aid was born from a post-school activity when 120 Doha College students enrolled for ‘Passion for Fashion’ during which students produced amazing sketches and showed a keen interest in photography, modeling, hair and makeup, PR and marketing and styling.
Doha College is one of the oldest British curriculum schools in Qatar hosting 1,200 students, between the ages of three and 18, from 50 nationalities.
