HMC receives prestigious international nursing education re-accreditation

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has earned re-accreditation, with distinction, as a provider for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) from the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC).
ANCC accreditation distinguishes organizations that demonstrate quality and excellence in the design and delivery of continuing nursing education. The prestigious re-accreditation was obtained in December by HMC’s Department of Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research and supported through the Academic Health System. The designation places HMC among an elite class of healthcare organizations and demonstrates the importance placed on supporting clinical staff through providing high-quality professional development opportunities.
Professor Ann-Marie Cannaby, Chief Nursing Officer at HMC said the Department of Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research underwent an extensive evaluation prior to receiving the re-accreditation. She added that ANCC accreditation validates a commitment to providing access to the highest caliber of continuing nursing education.
“To be re-accredited, with distinction, is a tremendous accomplishment and a great source of pride for our nurses and midwives. We are committed to providing high-quality continuing education programs and ANCC accreditation demonstrates that HMC has met comprehensive, evidenced-based criteria centred on international standards. It signals our commitment to developing well-trained clinical staff prepared to practice at the highest standards,” said Professor Cannaby.
Professor Cannaby added that earning this level of accreditation not only speaks to the high-quality continuing education activities that HMC certifies, but also to the hard work and expertise of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research.
In February 2014, HMC became the first organization in the GCC, and only the third in the Middle East, to be accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the ANCC. The re-accreditation, with distinction, places HMC in the top 10 percent of organizations worldwide to receive the honor; only organizations that demonstrate zero deficiencies achieve accreditation with distinction. HMC’s re-accreditation is valid for four years.
Accreditation is a voluntary, peer-review process intended to strengthen and sustain the quality and integrity of continuing nursing education through defining standards for high performance. The ANCC, a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association, is the world’s largest and most prestigious nurse credentialing organization. Its internationally renowned credentialing programs certify nurses in specialty practice areas.
