Hosted by GE, the ‘Transforming Power’ conference is expected to bring together more than 150 global and regional energy sector experts in Dubai on Monday, October 16, 2017, to share experiences of industry-leading projects from around the world, identify the next generation of solutions to boost power sector efficiency and discuss new business models for the industry. The exclusive event will cover trends and innovations in the energy ecosystem, as well as big shifts that are shaping the power sector.

Joseph Anis, President & CEO of GE’s Power Services business in the Middle East and Africa, said, “Reliable electricity supply is a cornerstone of modern civilization. With the demand for power continuing to rise at about 8 percent per annum across MENA and market dynamics growing increasingly complex, power sector actors need to explore how we can best adapt to change and most effectively meet domestic and commercial energy needs. By convening industry champions, government representatives, operators, consultants and technologists, Transforming Power presents an opportunity for us to learn from each other’s experiences and collectively identify the way forward.”

Notable speakers and panelists at the event will include Taher Diab, Senior Director - Strategy & Planning, Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Secretary General of the Emirates Energy Award; H.E. Eng. Khalid Al Tuaimi, EVP - Generation, Saudi Electricity Company (SEC); Eng. Suhaila Marafi, Director, Department of Studies and Research, Ministry of Electricity and Water, Kuwait; Raad Mohsen Ghazi Shabib Al-Harris, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Energy Affairs, Iraq; and many other industry leaders.

The conference is being organized in collaboration with MEED and will cover various aspects of the energy ecosystem, with dedicated sessions on energy ecosystem shifts leading to the global transformation of the sector and their impact on the region; challenges, gaps and future opportunities; the future of energy finance; and the digitization of the power generation industry. Best-in-class case studies will also be presented by EnBW Energie Baden Württemberg AG and Électricité de France (EDF) on the RDK8 and Bouchain Power Plants – the world’s most efficient coal-fueled and combined cycle gas power plants, respectively, powered by GE’s leading ultra-supercritical technology and H-class heavy duty gas turbines.

GE has supported the development of MENA’s power sector for more than 80 years and the company’s industry-leading technologies produce up to 40 percent of the region’s power today. As governments in MENA focus on diversifying the energy mix, strengthening existing electricity infrastructure and making power more accessible, reliable, efficient and sustainable, GE is helping its customers and other stakeholders to transform the power generation sector with its advanced suite of digital industrial technologies.
