Emirates NBD wins double recognition at Effie MENA Awards 2013

Emirates NBD, a leading bank in the region, was twice recognised at the recent Effie MENA Awards 2013. Vikram Krishna, Head of Group Marketing and Customer Experience was named GMR Marketer of the Year 2013, while the bank’s RISE campaign, which supports SMEs across the UAE, won the bronze award in the Banking, Finance and Insurance Industry category..
The top ranking GMR Marketer of the Year award recognises individuals who have shown innovation, strategy and communications excellence in their work, and who are deemed to have raised the standard of marketing in the Middle East. Krishna was recognised for his contribution to the business, in particular his prominent role in the successful launch of Emirates NBD post the merger, and in creating a leading, billion dollar brand within the region.
Krishna was also commended for his contribution to the community through the successful launch of Emirates NBD social media sites. The bank’s Twitter page now boasts over 33,000 followers and its Facebook page, has seen Emirates NBD become the first bank in the UAE to build a following of more than 156,000. The award also acknowledged his role in developing a culture of honestly and transparency associated with the Emirates NBD brand.
On receiving the award, Krishna said: “I am truly honoured to have received such a prestigious award. At Emirates NBD we have a very strong team working together to raise our brand awareness and reach out to all our customers and potential clients, and I am very proud to lead such talented individuals. There was strong competition in this category so I am delighted that Emirates NBD has come out top, and I will continue to work towards innovatively growing our brand in the future.”
Emirates NBD was up against top banks and financial institutions in the Banking, Finance and Insurance Industry category, and was awarded bronze for its ‘RISE – the power of small’ campaign. The campaign focused on the establishment of an interactive networking portal for SMEs, entrepreneurs and start up organisations. Open to customers and non-customers, it acts as a platform for small business owners to learn, share and grow.
The 2013 Effies MENA awards are the latest international awards won by Emirates NBD’s Marketing Department in 2013. The bank also won two Bronze awards at the 2013 Dubai Lynx.
Emirates NBD’s marketing department has been on a winning spree since 2011, when it first bagged the Stevies for the ‘Marketing Department of the Year,’ in addition to being recognised as ‘Distinguished Honoree 2011.’ The bank was also recognised in the same year as Asia’s Best Brand 2011 by the CMO Asia Awards for Excellence in Branding and Marketing, in addition to winning a Silver Award in Banking, Finance and Insurance category at the 2012 GEMAS Effie MENA Awards.

Emirates NBD, the leading banking group in the region, was formed on 19 June 1963, when H.H. Late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum signed the Charter of Incorporation of the National Bank of Dubai (NBD) which became the first National Bank established in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). With the blessings of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, NBD merged with Emirates Bank International (EBI) on 06 March 2007, to form Emirates NBD, the largest banking group in the region by assets.
