DUBAL sponsors inaugural UAE Ideas Conference

A proudly UAE-built and –owned corporation, Dubai Aluminium, DUBAL, stands tall in the region and the world as an ambitious and successful global player in the aluminium industry, yet remains deeply conscious of its national roots. These sentiments, together with DUBAL’s culture of excellence through innovation-driven continuous improvement, underpin the rationale behind the corporation being a main sponsor of the Ideas.Arabia Sub-group’s first-ever UAE Ideas Conference, which took place in Dubai on 9 October 2012.
The focus of the conference was UAE Innovation 2012, under the theme “My Innovation. My identity.” This provided an open field to discuss all topics related to creativity and innovation in the UAE, with specific reference to their impact on driving growth in various fields such as environment, economy, national identity, the Arabic language and community. The theme also embraced the organizers’ ambition to encourage innovative ideas so as to increase productivity and resource utilization within organizations in the UAE; and reflected the key social and economic development ambitions of the Dubai government, to which DUBAL has committed its support. Indeed, through its highly successful Suggestion Scheme, DUBAL has harnessed the creativity of its employees for over 30 years, leading to on-going enhancements to its processes, products and efficiencies; and ultimately to savings in operating costs. Also, as a founding member and an investment partner of the Dubai Quality Group (“DQG”), DUBAL participates actively in the non-profit organization’s various initiatives. For example, DUBAL founded the DQG’s Ideas.Arabia Sub-group to promote suggestion schemes in the Arab region and has been a major sponsor of the annual Ideas.Arabia Conference since its inception in 2006.
The UAE Ideas event included a competition to identify the best innovative idea in five categories, namely 1) Enhancing usage of the Arabic language; 2) Enhancing National Identity on social networking; 3) Empowering National human resources; 4) Marketing and representing the UAE abroad; and 5) National voluntary work. “DUBAL’s sponsorship of UAE Ideas was a natural fit with our social fabric,” says Abdulla Kalban (President & CEO). “We are delighted at the success of the 2012 UAE Ideas Conference; and look forward to it becoming a regular feature on our nation’s calendar.”
