Dubai School of Government awarded full licensure from UAE Ministry of Higher Education

Dubai School of Government (DSG), a research and teaching institution focusing on public policy in the Arab world, today announced the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has renewed its license by five years, permitting DSG to continue delivering academic programmes until 2016.
The extended license confirms the Ministry’s support of DSG’s commitment to the creation of knowledge and dissemination of global best practices that seek to enhance the region’s capacity for effective public policy.
His Excellency Tariq Hilal Lootah, Executive President of Dubai School of Government, said: “The re-awarding of licensure by the Ministry of Higher Education recognizes the quality of DSG’s academic programmes, as well as the commitment of the Dubai Government to the highest standards of quality and excellence in higher education. The achievement is also a testimony to the dedication and calibre of the DSG team.”
DSG is the only institution in the region that offers a one-year Master of Public Administration (MPA) programme as well as the widest selection of customized executive education programmes across the region.
HE Tariq Hilal Lootah added: “We look forward to moving further towards our goal of becoming a world-class institution by broadening the scope of our programmes, widening our pool of highly qualified faculty, and strengthening our synergy with international institutions.”
According to the UAE’s Commission for Academic Accreditation, licensure signifies that the institution has a mission appropriate to higher education and possesses the governance structure, by-laws, regulations, policies and procedures, physical and financial resources, academic programmes, faculty and other personnel, as well as quality assurance measures sufficient to accomplish its objective. Licensure is initially granted for a period up to five years, following which the institution is required to apply for renewal every five years.
Established in 2005 in cooperation with the Harvard Kennedy School, DSG was first licensed to offer academic programmes in July 2008 by the Ministry of Higher Education’s Commission on Academic Accreditation. In October of the same year, it received accreditation for its Master of Public Administration programme. Since then, 87 public sector professionals from 19 countries have either graduated from or are currently enrolled in DSG’s MPA programme.
The Dubai School of Government is currently accepting applications for its fourth MPA programme, which will commence in January 2012. The postgraduate programme is designed to better equip students to assume leadership roles within their respective government institutions.
