Dubai Municipality commends Ramada Ajman’s Zero Landfill Project

The Dubai Municipality recently commended Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman for its significant commitment and innovation in reducing waste through its Zero Landfill initiative, a project now on its first year and had achieved more than 90% waste diversion from the landfill.
Mr. Taleb Abdulkareem Julfar, Director and Head of the Public Parks and Horticulture Department headed the visit along with Mr. Nabil Bin Haider, Head of Horticulture and Services Section of the Public Parks and Horticulture Department, Mr. Munir Hassan Ghaith, Horticulture Specialist, Public Parks and Horticulture Department and Mr. Ali Mohammed Al Hammadi, Head of Technical Support & Studies Section Waste Management Department.
The team at Ramada Ajman demonstrated to the Dubai Municipality’s officials how the compost machine recycles and reduces the hotel’s waste, which is 800 kg to 1000 kg daily. All have given high praises for the work and committed their support to the property’s conservation efforts.
Iftikhar Hamdani, General Manager, Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman said: “We are very pleased with the commendation given by the Dubai Municipality for our Zero Landfill project. We thank them for this visit which only shows that the public has not started to recognise our environmentally friendly programs that benefit both our property and our country.”
Ramada Ajman’s Zero Landfill Project, organised in collaboration with AIMS Group and Green Mountain Waste Management, and supported by Green Good Eco-Tech, was launched last year as part of the property’s commitment to help conserve the natural environment in the northern emirate. The project, which is the first amongst the hotels in the UAE is in line with the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle vision of HH Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Municipality and Planning Department.
The Zero Landfill Project works to recycle and reduce the hotel’s waste by applying the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle approach in waste management. Based on the waste composition analysis of Ramada Ajman, the major portion of the property’s wastes are from food or organic waste, which can be used for compost; while the paper, plastics and metals can be recycled; and a very minimal portion which are considered as waste rejects will go to the landfill. Through these measures, the target is to achieve more than 90% waste diversion from the landfill.
