Dubai Customs Ladies Committee has organised medical activities to mark  the World Heart Day, Breast Cancer Awareness Month and World Osteoporosis Day. The events were held in cooperation with several institutions, hospitals and private medical clinics.

Touring the two-day medical activities at DC head office, H.E. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih hailed the efforts exerted by the Ladies Committee in organising and carrying out awareness and medical programs that target employees’ health and safety.

Maryam Al Shamsi, Head of the Dubai Customs Ladies Committee, said that  all medical services provided for DC employees are delivered with active participation of government and private agencies; Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Police, Dubai Ambulance as part of 'Healthy Heart' campaign observed in October of every year, in addition to the Dubai Municipality Awareness Team.

She added that employees underwent complete medical check-ups. The activities included healthcare caravans, such as the pink caravan from Friends of Cancer Patients Charitable Organization, and mobile clinics. Advanced medical equipment, such as a mammography device, used to help detect breast cancer early on, was put in place.

Activities also included hosting two medical lectures for men. The prostate cancer and related ailments and conditions were the focus of the first lecture, delivered by Dr. Manaf Kandakji, Urologist, Al Zahra Hospital, who stressed that prostate cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosed in the world and the third most common cause of cancer death. And, it is the most  common type of cancer found in men.

The second lecture delivered by Dr. Arfan Al Awa, Consultant, General and Breast Surgery at Dubai Hospital, tackled the issue of breast cancer in men. Dr. Al Awa underscored that although breast cancer is rarely found in men, it can be fatal- if not detected early.

Moreover, an awareness lecture on osteoporosis and breast cancer was organised for women employees to raise awareness of these ailments, helping them to identify warning signs, which leads to an early diagnosis and a much better chance of a potentially curative therapy.
