Dubai Customs launched its employee training plan for 2014, as part of the multiple efforts exerted to build human resources capabilities and enhance their productivity and performance, with a view to realizing DC’s strategic vision to support economy, community protection and sustainable development.

“The training plan includes 326 training programs and workshops, of which 160 programs are allocated for the main operations of DC such as inspection, customs clearance and other activities affecting 2482 employees, that is, 92% Dubai Customs’ total number of employees that approaches 3000. The plan has been drawn up in accordance with the new developments and changes witnessed by the customs business across the globe, and also in light of the actual training requirements of DC staff,” said Nadia Abdullah Kamaly, the acting Executive Director of the Human Resources, Finance and Administration Division.

Nadia Kamaly also said Dubai Customs is keen on training and qualifying its human resources. For DC firmly believes that the employee is the cornerstone upon which the Department depends to build distinctive pillars; promote its role in sustaining  national economy and prosperity; and  apply its policies and strategies in community protection, which stands as the organization’s ultimate mission. This can only be achieved through well-qualified and educated staff that can assume the responsibility of being the society’s protective shield the nation’s ambassador in dealing with passengers and customers.

She further noted that, “The new orientation toward the education and training of our human resources stems from the statement of His Highness Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, who said, ‘The UAE’s true capital lies in its intellectual, administrative and human resources that are capable of  making wealth and achieving real development’. This is exactly what we endeavour to implement by providing proper and up-to-date training programs that are of direct relevance to different customs and administrative positions.”

To achieve these goals, Dubai Customs established in June 2011 a customs training center with the aim of training and capacity building  of its staff. The center utilizes modern learning tools and latest methods used in employee training, especially in customs business and other support areas. In addition, the center provides the best training programs and attracts the best specialized trainers, while availing of in-house expertise to develop the customs work.

Dr. Abdul Wahab Madani, Director of Customs Training Center, said, “Dubai Customs training plan for this year aims at building and developing expert knowledge at the customs fields, especially for inspection and operations, as well as training 2nd and 3rd row future leaders, self-development, distance learning, and administrative skills enhancement.”

Al Madani reaffirmed that the Customs Training Center is committed to execute the vision of UAE government that focuses on the new concept of smart training. The center has been improved and equipped with modern educational and coaching technologies.  The 2014 plan features a number of new programs, such as security programs for inspectors, English language course, employee self-training, alongside other latest leadership courses.

Among the training courses scheduled for the ongoing year are passengers & luggage inspection methods, customs declarations & procedures, customer service integrated skills, psychology of self-management, administrative excellence and creative thinking, planning and time management skills, in addition to many other programs that contribute to the development of employees’ customs, administrative and leadership competencies.
