Dubai Customs provides a unique platform for women empowerment

Dubai Customs is on the lead of the UAE’s rally to empower women in all fields of life as part of the reel of comprehensive development. Emirati women have already made huge strides in all fields of work and leadership alike.

Dubai Customs prides itself for setting exemplary platform in empowering female employees at the most critical and advanced fields of work, be it administrative or in the hands-on inspection field.

 A Women’s Committee was established within Dubai Customs, aimed at ensuring the wellbeing of women at the work place as well as at their domestic lives. The Women Committee covers health, cultural, family affairs and even career progress for all women at DC; catered via a wide range of activities, seminars, workshop, training programs and even entertainment. Thus, it ensures a sustainable approach for empowered and proud female employees.

Dubai Customs has prized the motto of “Women and Innovation “to be at the facade of the Emirati Women's Day for this year.

This cherished day, first launched in the 28^th of August 2015, by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairperson of General Women's Union, Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood "Mother of the UAE.” 

Among the many initiatives carried out by the Department in favor of women at the workplace, was the establishment of a nursery for the children of employees. Furthermore, a wide series of events to raise awareness of breast cancer, and the award for the best working mother, in addition to intense awareness lectures of social, psychological, and professional character, as well as lectures on administrative systems that support women's work in the department. 

Maryam Khalifa Al Shamsi, Head of Women's Committee at Dubai Customs, said that the committee’s initiatives aim to harness and provide an ideal and inspiring work environment for female employees. 

It also aims at promoting the spirit of creativity and innovation together with a healthy and positive working environment. And in line with this year’s motto of the Emirati Women’s Day is in fine alignment with the wise government directives aimed at advancing women status in and at all fields. 

Moreover, she pointed out that Dubai Customs is very keen to provide DC women with vocational training, career advancement. 

Dubai Customs Women's Committee has established channels of communication with female employees and made sure they are involved in developing community services that help empower women and strengthen the services provided to them.
