Dr. Mona Amer Appointed Secretary-General of the “Hope for the Future” Initiative

Dr. Abdullah Al-Najjar, Chairman of the Board of the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF), has announced the appointment of Dr. Mona Amer as Secretary-General of the “Hope for the Future” Initiative.

A Humanitarian and Educational Vision

“Hope for the Future” is a humanitarian and educational initiative launched by ASTF on December 15, 2024, at the headquarters of the League of Arab States. The initiative aims to empower students from countries affected by wars, conflicts, and natural disasters to continue their education and rebuild their communities.

The initiative is implemented in strategic partnership with the Association of Arab Universities, Stardom University (Turkey), the Arab Council for Scientific Research, and in cooperation with the American University of Sharjah, the European Universities in Egypt, and Czech Global University.

About Dr. Mona Amer

Dr. Amer holds a Ph.D. in Civil Law and International Arbitration from Egypt and brings over 30 years of legal experience across the Gulf region and Egypt. She is the author of several legal publications and has been honored by universities and institutions across the Arab world for her contributions to academia and law.

Upon her appointment, Dr. Mona Amer said:

“Education is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of building individuals and nations. It plays a vital role in improving the quality of life for communities. Through ‘Hope for the Future,’ we aim to safeguard the right of future generations—especially those in crisis and conflict zones—to complete their education, support their communities, and contribute to rebuilding and development.”

A Commitment to Empowerment and Sustainability

The Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF), headquartered in Sharjah, UAE, was founded in 2000 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. Today, ASTF is the largest Arab scientific network, bringing together more than 50,000 scientists and innovators in various fields of science and technology from across the Arab world and beyond.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Najjar emphasized that this appointment comes as part of ASTF’s ongoing efforts to develop its initiatives and networks while strengthening the role of Arab women in leadership positions, in line with its mission to promote sustainable development, and empower youth and women across the Arab region.

“Dr. Mona Amer’s selection is a recognition of her distinguished professional career and extensive expertise,” Al-Najjar stated. He also expressed gratitude to Professor Ahmed Obeid, the former Secretary-General of the initiative, for his valuable contributions to its launch and establishment.

Arab Science and Technology Foundation

ASTF is an independent, non-profit non-governmental organization (ngo), which works regionally and Internationally to encourage investment in Science and Technology.

ASTF was founded upon recommendations raised from 375 scientists from inside and outside Arab world who attend “Scientific Research Outlook and technology development in the Arab world” symposium that held by Sharjah University during 24th-26th April 2000, as its establishment was declared in the closing session of the Symposium upon the initiative of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al-Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the UAE, Ruler of Sharjah.
