Dow Chemical in Kuwait recently sponsored and participated in the American Business Council Kuwait’s (ABCK) annual business summit. The ‘Kuwait is Open for Business’ summit, held on 15 February 2012, brought together a number of American companies and industry leaders in the country and provided a platform for the sharing of ideas for future business opportunities.

In addition to being attended by Jamel Attal, Country Managing Director, Dow Kuwait, the event also featured a panel discussion on the ‘Future of Energy in Kuwait’, which was led by Antoine Samaha, regional commercial director for Dow Oil & Gas for the Middle East and Africa. Other discussions in the panel revolved around how sources of energy have evolved over time and why new chemistries and technologies will be critical to sustaining reliable, long-term energy supply.

“Kuwait is an important market for Dow Oil and Gas. We’ve been active in Kuwait for 17 years bringing innovative products, technologies and service solutions,” said Samaha. “There is much opportunity for US business collaboration in the local oil and gas sector here and this summit has been an excellent platform to discuss collaboration and commercial possibilities.”

The business summit concluded with an evening gala to celebrate ABCK’s 27th anniversary. Guests enjoyed live cultural performances from many countries by the cast of the Lothan Youth Achievement Center (LoYAC), sponsored by Dow. The cultural performances included representation from Argentina, Azerbaijan, India and Kuwait.

The ABCK is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and development of American businesses and American business interests in Kuwait.
