DEWA organises Health and Safety Week 2014

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) inaugurated the Health and Safety Week, which DEWA is organising from 23-27 November 2014 in its head office in Zabeel East, Al Hudaiba Centre, and Jebel Ali station. The inauguration ceremony was attended by DEWA’s Executive Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents, and staff. DEWA organises the Health and Safety Week annually as part of its strategy to establish health and safety foundations among its staff.
“To support its vision to become a sustainable world-class utility, DEWA adopts the highest standards and best international practices in quality, health, safety, and the environment, within DEWA’s integrated management systems policy. This policy establishes the foundations of health and safety, and ensures our electricity and water services are provided according to the highest standards of availability, reliability, efficiency, and safety, in order to make our customers, partners, and staff happier, and protect the environment and our natural resources,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“At DEWA, we keep pace with the best international practices and standards in quality, health, safety, and the environment through our integrated management systems strategy, in all of our current and future projects, to establish and promote a safe and healthy work environment for the benefit of our customers, partners, and society as a whole,” added Al Tayer.
“Our efforts in the areas of health and safety have been recognised in many ways. DEWA won the 5-star rating in health and safety from the British Safety Council from 2002 till 2014, and the British Safety Council’s Sword of Honour for six consecutive years. It also received Occupation Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS 18001 Certification), and other awards that have placed DEWA among the leading organisations in occupational health and safety,” concluded Al Tayer.
The Week’s events include a number of programmes, lectures, and activities for DEWA’s staff to increase awareness about occupational health and safety. DEWA also organised competitions for its staff and those of its contractors as part of its commitment to support successful partnerships. Applying health and safety criteria is not limited to DEWA’s staff, but includes all stakeholders as well.

We are committed to applying the integrated management systems policy to strengthen and spread best practices for health and safety in all its operations to increase operational efficiency and achieve excellence,” said Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA.

DEWA will organise the external Health and Safety Week which is for everyone society from 8-12 December 2014 at Reef Mall in Dubai. The event includes various educational and awareness activities to improve health and safety standards in society.
