DEWA organises 5th Health & Safety Week

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), inaugurated the 5th Health and Safety Week held at Dubai Festival City. The inauguration was attended by DEWA officials, heads of educational institutions, and a large number of school students.
The event is in line with DEWA’s strategy to promote the highest standards of health and safety, and provide and a safe working environment. This has enabled DEWA to win prestigious international awards in the fields of health and safety.
Being held until 14 November, the Health and Safety Week features lectures on health, fire safety, personal hygiene and school safety, in addition to games, competitions, and free health checkups.
“The Health and Safety Week is in line with our vision to become a sustainable world-class utility, and is part of our corporate social responsibility and pioneering role in promoting social development in Dubai. We adopt the highest international standards of health and safety, and annually organise this event to raise awareness amongst society on the best health practices and encourage everyone to adopt positive behavior in their daily lives. This actively contributes to promoting their well-being and achieving a sustainable future for generations to come,” said Al Tayer.
“Our efforts in the fields of health and safety have enabled us to achieve a pioneering position regionally and globally. DEWA’s efforts were recognized by its winning the British Safety Council’s Globe of Honour for environment for the second consecutive year, and the Sword of Honour for health and safety for the sixth consecutive year. These recognitions are the result of adopting the best administrative integrated systems to promote the highest standards of health, safety, and environment across our divisions and operations,” concluded Al Tayer.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) was formed on 1 January, 1992, by a decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum to take over and merge the Dubai Electric Company and the Dubai Water Department that had been operating independently for several years until then.
