DED launches smart phone App to manage business registration and licensing services

The Department of Economic Development, DED, in Dubai is showcasing its latest technology innovations and eServices for customers at the Gitex Technology Week 2012, the premier information technology expo being held at the Dubai International Convention Centre from 14-18 October. The Gitex participation coincides with the launch of a Beta version smart phone application (App) to manage DED’s business registration and licensing services. 

Commenting on the latest service enhancements, Mohammed Shael Al Saadi, Chief Executive Officer of DED’s Business Registration and Licensing BRL Sector said the Department focuses on keeping pace with the technological advances in Dubai and the UAE, chiefly to enhance the ease of doing business. 

“We are launching the first smart phone application of its kind in the world to manage the licensing and business registration services. Customers can now access these services through smart phones, iPhone and iPad, in both Arabic and English,” Al Saadi said. 

Services available on the new App includes renewal and registration of companies, trade name reservation, renewal of trade names, initial approval of licenses, renewal of licenses, payment of license fees and fines, as well as company lookup search for existing companies operating in Dubai and gain information on their business activities. 

Al Saadi added: “The Beta version App has been designed by the Information Technology Division team in DED without help from outside. The App is part of DED’s efforts to provide electronic solutions in line with the latest digital technology to investors and owners of commercial licenses and help them avoid spending time on their lap tops or visiting DED branch offices.” 

Al Saadi explained the BRL Sector will continue to develop the App with new additions and updates to existing data twice a year. 

“Our eServices platform confirms DED's commitment to implementing eGovernment and procedures that raise productivity and service quality. At Gitex, DED is highlighting our technology-driven initiatives that ensure added-value service to clients and empower Dubai’s businesses with advanced eCommerce capabilities that expedite the transformation of Dubai into a knowledge-based economy," added Al Shael. 

Omar Bushahab, Chief Executive Officer of DED’s Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection (CCCP) Sector stated that the CCCP team at Gitex 2012 will look for the latest products and innovations, especially in fighting commercial fraud and in communicating with investors, and also seek to exchange information on the ways to maintain brand identity and intellectual property as well as the role of CCCP in consumer rights protection. 

“Gitex Technology Week is an ideal platform to raise awareness about the importance of eServices in enhancing economic performance and developing a competitive knowledge-based economy in line with the UAE Vision 2021. We seek to communicate with visitors and inform them of our services in the field of consumer protection as well as review the latest technology innovations and connect with top international companies,” added Bushahab.
