Cleveland Clinic Named No. 1 in Cardiology, No. 2 in Endocrinology Worldwide by Newsweek

Newsweek has ranked Cleveland Clinic the No. 1 hospital for cardiology and the No. 2 hospital for endocrinology in the world, as part of its World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2021 analysis.

In all, six Cleveland Clinic specialties were recognized the in top 21 worldwide rankings: Cardiology No. 1, Endocrinology No.2, Gastroenterology No. 5, Neurology No.7, Oncology No.17 and Orthopedics No. 21.

Cleveland Clinic marks its centenary in 2021, and has been expanding its reach outside of the U.S. for more than a decade. Cleveland Clinic first opened an outpatient center in Canada in 2006, then expanded further abroad to the United Arab Emirates in 2015. Here, in partnership with Mubadala Investment Company, it opened Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, with a state-of-the-art oncology center to open in the capital, Abu Dhabi, in 2022.

Cleveland Clinic London will open in early 2022, preceded by its first outpatient facility in autumn 2021.

According to Newsweek, its rankings are based on recommendations from more than 40,000 medical experts – doctors, hospitals managers and healthcare professionals – who were invited to participate in an online survey.

Newsweek’s ranking features the top 200 hospitals in both oncology and cardiology and the top 100 in endocrinology, neurology, gastroenterology and orthopedics. While global top hospitals are represented in multiple medical fields, leading specialized hospitals that are highly renowned in one or two specific medical fields or treatments also made it into the list in their specialization.

The Newsweek rankings follow those of U.S. News & World Report’s ‘2020-21 Best Hospitals rankings’ released in July this year, where Cleveland Clinic was ranked No. 1 in Cardiology & Heart Surgery for the 26th consecutive year, and the No. 2 hospital in the nation.
