Capital Club and Cass Business School Dubai host talk by renowned investment expert

With the crisis entering a new phase and the global economy facing a possible double-dip, why are policymakers so helpless and why has macroeconomics and finance theory been shown to be so lacking in credible solutions? And are there investment strategies which can secure reasonable returns despite the ultra-volatile market environment?

This will be the topic of discussion on Monday, 10 October, when the Capital Club Dubai, the region's premier private business club and a member of the ENSHAA group of companies, and Cass Business School Dubai, home to the 10^th best Executive MBA programme in the world according to the Financial Times, jointly host a talk titled Investment Lessons from the Financial Crisis…Giving the talk will be Steve Thomas, Professor of Finance at Cass Business School London. The event is the latest initiative to result from a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two organisations in February 2011.

Thomas, who joined Cass in 2006, previously held chairs at the University of Wales and Southampton University, and has been Visiting Professor at the ICMA Centre, University of Reading and Queens University, Canada. He has also been a Houblon-Norman Fellow at the Bank of England.

His research, consulting and business interests lie in the area of investment management and he currently serves on the investment committee of Hasley Investment Management, a boutique fund of funds. He is also closely involved with professional investment qualifications in the UK, being a member of the CFA UK education committee and founder of the Investment Management Certificate for UK investment managers. In addition, Thomas is founding consulting editor of a range of credit rating products published since 1988 by InteractiveData (formerly FT).
