The British University in Dubai offers new training programmes in collaboration with Monash University
The Professional Development Institute (PDI) at The British University in Dubai (BUiD) in collaboration with the Department of Enterprise Education at Monash University will be offering eleven new professional development training courses in areas of Business, Education, and Energy Management.
This collaboration stems from a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between BUiD and Monash University in 2022 that focused on research collaboration, scholar and student exchanges, and the sharing of academic resources.
These courses will be co-delivered by distinguished faculty from both Monash University and BUiD, combining their collective expertise to provide a world-class learning experience. This collaboration opens exciting opportunities for both institutions to make a meaningful impact in professional education.
Professor Bassam Abu-Hijleh, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and IT, commented, “we are delighted to collaborate with Monash University to bring world-class professional training courses to the UAE and the GCC in general. These training courses are designed to ensure that professionals keep up with the latest knowledge and skills in their respective fields and continue to perform and progress to the best of their abilities at all stages of their professional lives.”
The courses are also in line with the National Qualifications Centre and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) plans. BUiD will be working with Monash to introduce professional and vocational qualifications that will be accredited and recognised in the UAE. This recognition allows candidates to apply to mainstream bachelors and masters’ programmes with the potential of acceptance (and possible exemptions) based on recognition of prior learning (RPL). Furthermore, the micro-credentials allow candidates to register for credit-bearing courses and accumulate credits that can then be applied towards a bachelor’s or a master’s degree programme as credit exemptions.
Both institutions are dedicated to research excellence, and this collaboration highlights their shared commitment to fostering knowledge that extends beyond their communities to make a global impact.
Background Information
The British University in Dubai
The British University in Dubai (BUiD) was established in 2003 by Ruler’s Decree of the Emirate of Dubai, as the region's first, research-based, postgraduate university. BUiD offers a unique not-for-profit brand of higher education with high standards for study and research designed to contribute to the technological innovation and socio-economic development of the Arab world and beyond.
BUiD was established to facilitate access in the Middle East to a British-style of world class education, training and research. At BUiD's first anniversary celebrations His Excellency, Richard Makepeace, then British Ambassador to the UAE commented that BUiD was one of the most exciting developments in UAE-UK relations we have seen for many years. After a decade, the excitement and commitment is sustained!
