EMC Corporation spoke in a keynote session today at the IDC CIO Summit 2012, being held at Le Meridien Fujeirah, UAE. The widely recognized ICT focused event allows CIOs, CTOs, businesses and IT executives to acquire distilled and compact insights into the latest IT strategies, emerging technologies, and best practices that have direct implications on their businesses. Commenting on the IDC CIO Summit, Mohammed Amin highlighted that the opportunity of Big Data analytics is immense and that it is transforming businesses and changing the world though strategic insights. He stressed the importance of capitalizing on the Big Data opportunity through a fully automated, scale-out storage platform big data analytics platform to drive action and make faster real-time decisions based on insights and create new services for higher competitive advantage.

During his keynote presentation at the summit, Mark Sears, Data Scientist at Greenplum, a Division of EMC, highlighted the fact that data growth is becoming rapid and unstructured making it important for organizations to have the ability to manage it and transform it into actionable information through analytics; resulting in transformational change for their businesses.

Conducted with the support of EMC, a recent IDC Digital Universe Study, "Extracting Value from Chaos", finds the world's data doubling every two years - growing faster than Moore's Law. In parallel, organizations all over strive to become 'Agile Enterprises'; achieving faster time to market, lower costs, higher business value, better use of human capital and greater responsiveness to changes happening all around them. EMC and Greenplum recognize that these benefits stem from a key ability; the ability to make the best decisions quickly based on insights derived from the exponentially growing sources of Big Data. Big Data represents one of the greatest opportunities and challenges to today's organizations, to overcome the challenges and capture the great opportunity they must quickly evolve beyond traditional business intelligence by putting data analysis at the core of every decision.

Mark Sears emphasized that traditional business intelligence (BI) tools typically crunch numbers to report what happened in the past and why. In the era of Big Data, new technologies like the Greenplum UAP and the emerging discipline of data science help organizations achieve an unprecedented degree of foresight and business agility. Organizations today are looking for Big Data analytics to enable them to anticipate the future through advanced or predictive analytics and then rapidly turning that insight into action. The results will include greater customer intimacy and responsiveness, faster time-to-market and new value creation in highly agile operations. Across sectors, companies are preparing to bring these capabilities into their organizations and start realizing the benefits of Big Data analytics.
