ADM Carries Inspection and Awareness Campaign at Construction Sites

The Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADM), has carried out an educative and inspection campaign on construction sites and public roads to curb the negative practices in these places. The event is part of the continuous efforts of the Municipality to ensure the compliance with the highest standards of security and safety applicable to all work sites for the safety of all. The move echoes its ongoing endeavours of the ADM to protect the civilised and gorgeous appearance of Abu Dhabi city and suburban areas.

During the campaign, which covered Al Bateen, Reem Island, Madinat Zayed, Musaffah Industrial, Saadiyat Island, Al Reef, Baniyas, and Al Shamkha, municipal inspectors have issued 78 offences pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 2 for 2012 regarding urban appearance, and the Building Law No. 16 for 2009. Offences were issued to violating firms and companies in the building and construction sector for failing to comply with the conditions and standards ought to be observed at construction sites.

The objective of this campaign was to monitor building and construction sites, and spot violations and losses caused by ready-mix concrete transport trucks due to the dropping of concrete and leaving the hoses of concrete mixers uncovered while moving on roads, thus damaging public assets. Trucks also inflict damage on public roads and cause the accumulation of dust on roads and pavements. General maintenance firms undertaking décor and painting works are also a cause of damage as a result of the leak on roads of volatile paints and materials transported in containers.

The Municipality called on contractors and consultants in the building and construction sector to provide paved entry points and ensure the cleanliness of the asphalt as well as the pavement surrounding construction sites. It also urged them to provide stations for washing their vehicles and machinery within the construction sites and address the environment, health and safety standards, to ensure that no concrete products will spill on roads. It also called on them to wash the tyres of vehicles and machinery before leaving construction sites, and provide logistics needed for the removal of concrete leftovers using environment-friendly techniques.

During the awareness and inspection campaign, inspectors of Abu Dhabi City Municipality urged those in charge of building and construction firms to abide by the best and sound practices to curb the spilling of ready-made concrete on public roads and construction sites. It encouraged them to take all health precautions including suppressing the spread of dust and air-borne cement particles at site and surrounding areas, preventing the spread of polluting gases & noises, and ensuring that concrete trucks are in good shape.

The Municipality will continue its regular inspection tours of all building and construction sites throughout the year, as it is keen to achieve the highest standards of safety, health for all community members.

It is noteworthy that according to Law No 2 for 2012 governing the urban appearance, and the building law number 16 for 2009, an offence has to be issued to the violating company or establishment ranging from ten thousand dirhams to 100 thousand dirhams. When the offender expresses wish to reconcile and undertake to remove the offence as well as the damage to the infrastructure within a period not exceeding one month, depending on the type of offence, the Municipality will accept the payment of 50% of the offence. In case of failure to comply with the legal requirements, the case shall be referred to the Public Prosecution for further necessary action.
