ACT marks World Environment Day with the launch of the “Cycle for green” campaign

As part of its staunch efforts to promote greener living, Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) launched on Tuesday, June 5 a pro-cycling campaign under the heading “Cycle for green,” which was organized in line with World Environmental Day celebrations around the globe.
ACT's CEO, Soren Hansen explained that this campaign comes as part of the company's integrated eco strategy, which makes environmental preservation an essential aspect of its core culture and operations.
"This campaign seeks to bolster the role we play in safeguarding our environment for future generations, in addition to raising the awareness of the local community in Aqaba on key environmental issues and challenges," commented Hansen. "In promoting greener lifestyle habits, such as replacing gasoline-dependent vehicles with bicycles in order to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, we help sow the seeds of a more conscious future for our communities. Our activities are organized with the notion of developing the collective sense of responsibility, encouraging people to adopt more sustainable habits and to set examples for others."
This campaign is part of an ongoing series of eco-friendly endeavors organized by ACT on a continual basis, the most recent of which was a cleanup dive targeting the shoreline and seabed of the diving area within the Aqaba Marine Park. The dive was organized in collaboration with the Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan, the Aqaba Diving Association and the marine park itself, with the primary objective of preserving the marine ecosystems within the target area, particularly its rich coral reefs.
Background Information
Aqaba Container Terminal
In 2003, the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), on behalf of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, was on a mission to acquire a strategic partnership to improve the efficiency, capacity and the operational performance of the container terminal in Aqaba. After signing a Terminal Management Contract with ADC in 2004, APM Terminals (part of the global A.P. Møller–Maersk Group), took over the management and operation of the terminal.
A 25-year Joint Development Agreement (JDA) was signed between ADC and the Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) in 2006. Under the contract, APM Terminals Jordan operates, manages and markets ACT in addition to executing the Master Plan, which anticipates achieving a drastic increase of throughput capacity through a combination of physical and operational improvements.
