Abu Dhabi University launches 2nd Global Logistics Forum today

Key issues facing the logistics industry globally and in the Middle East will be highlighted today (Monday, 21st November) at the opening of the 2nd Annual Global Logistics Forum held at Park Rotana Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Organized by Abu Dhabi University, the Centre of Excellence for Logistics and Supply Chain Management, AIM Events, and TU Berlin with “Abu Dhabi Ports Company” as the platinum sponsor, the 3-day forum entitled “Developing a Unified Logistics Environment that Fosters Growth” brings together decision makers from government organizations, customs and transport regulators, heads and directors of the corporate supply chains and the logistics industry, air cargo, shipping and freight operators. These experts will highlight the key initiatives that support the growth of the logistics industry and promote the UAE as a major hub for logistics, as well as discuss the transport and customs strategy across the different Emirates and suggest methods to align custom regulations and tariff standards throughout the UAE.

Commenting on the importance of the Global Logistics Forum, Dr. Ahmed Badr CEO of Abu Dhabi University Knowledge Group explained that the three- day forum will tackle various topic that face the logistics industry both globally and regionally, and will allow key stakeholders to discuss growth opportunities in the UAE, as well as give them the opportunity to present diverse case studies on developing an efficient and cost-reducing logistics operation, the impact, opportunities and benefits of the GCC rail network on the logistics industry, and developing a more integrated customs environment in the UAE.

He added that the forum also offers a series of panel sessions and specialized interactive workshops that address vital subjects, including: optimizing the movement of freight across the region by aligning transport regulations, creating an integrated customs environment to optimize logistics, demonstrating social responsibility through developing green logistics, and building sustainability into logistics operations.

Director of AIM Events at Abu Dhabi University Knowledge Group, Riad Mannan noted the forum is a great opportunity to understand how the current and planned developments in ports and logistics infrastructure are going to help facilitate the growth of logistics in the region. He added that the forum hosts speakers from: UAE Federal Customs Authority, National Transport Authority, Aramex, Department of Transport Abu Dhabi, Al- Futtaim Logistics, Agility (Abu Dhabi), Abu Dhabi Ports Company, Logistics and Supply Chain Association and many others.

The dream began with the Charter of Abu Dhabi University in the year 2000, After three years of planning, the university opened its doors in September 2003, to an entering class of 1,000 students on its two campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
