Under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abu Dhabi University’s College of Business Administration is set to launch the “International Conference on Organization and Management (ICOM)” on the 22nd and 23rd of November in the Intercontinental Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Held under the theme “Innovative Management Practices: Challenges and Opportunities in the 21st Century”, and organized in strategic collaboration with the Asia Academy of Management, ICOM is set to attract professors, scholars, researchers and experts who will present around 200 research papers representing 35 countries from around the world and divided into 12 tracks.

Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim stressed that perhaps the most distinctive feature of this conference is its focus on the importance of innovation in the implementation of organization and management strategies. “Through interactive debate and workshops the conference will highlight the most successful experiences and examples of innovative management both regionally and internationally, as well as their impact on increasing the effectiveness and productivity of institutions both in the public and private sectors, as well as enable them to maintain their resources and ensure their sustainability. With the diversity of research papers presented, it will be interesting to see how experts can successfully apply international examples to fit the culture and customs of the UAE, and what kind of structural and cultural architectures are created by managers when sustainability becomes the core belief of the organization”, said Dr. Ibrahim.

Dr. Ibrahim pointed out that ICOM is part of a series of initiatives that ADU has launched in response to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, on dubbing 2015 as the “Year of Innovation”. It also coincides with the directives of H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to celebrate “UAE Innovation Week” from 22nd to 28th of November.

On his part, Dr. Jacob Chacko, Dean of ADU’s College of Business Administration explained that ICOM represents an academic festival that will bring together professors and researchers to discuss the opportunities and challenges that face both private and public sector organizations in applying innovative management theories and techniques. “We’re also very proud to have partnered with the Asia Academy of Management whose members will also chair some of the conference sessions. A specialized committee will also review and select some of the papers presented at ICOM to be published in SCOPUS / ABDC listed international refereed journals”, added Dr. Chacko.

Dr. Sherine Farouk Assistant Provost for Academic Projects, and part of ICOM’ organizing committee stressed that the most distinctive feature of this conference, which is one of the largest academic events organized by ADU’s College of Business Administration is the “Doctoral Colloquium” which will consist of panels of experts in management research who will share their experiences in doing research. “We were very pleased with the overwhelming response that ICOM had garnered from scholars and researchers around the world. We received over 300 submissions from 45 countries which were reviewed and 200 papers were selected to participate representing various countries including: United Arab Emirates, United States of America, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Taiwan, South Korea, South Africa, Singapore, Norway, Japan, Jordan, France, Iceland, Hong Kong, Fiji, Australia, Qatar, Poland, Russia, Malaysia, Egypt, Bahrain and others.
