Abeer Al Emadi, Operations Manager at IBQ, has won the ‘Leadership’ Award at the Qatari Businesswomen Awards 2011 which were held yesterday evening at the Four Seasons hotel in Doha. The annual Awards ceremony, organised by the Qatar Businesswomen Association, aims at recognising leading business talent and achievements of female entrepreneurs in the country.
The jury members for the Awards included a host of high-level figures such as Dr Sheikha bint Jabor Al Thani, vice-president and chief academic officer of Qatar University, Sheikha Hessah bint Khalifah bin Ahmed al Thani, former UN special rapporteur on disability, Dr Khalifa al Kuwari, CEO of Aspetar, Abdullah Saleh al Raisi, deputy CEO of Commercial Bank, Ahmad Mahdi al Majed, chairman of Al Majed Group, and Ibrahim Al Jaida, CEO of Arab Engineering Bureau and member of the Qatari Businessmen Association.
George Nasra, Managing Director of IBQ said: “We’re very proud of Abeer Al Emadi. Abeer is a highly professional and remarkable employee of IBQ. She’s really an exemplar for her leadership, dedication and commitment to the organisation. This award is a testament to the importance we place on human capital and the investment in building a unique workforce and corporate culture which makes us an Employer of Choice and which encourages each member of the IBQ team to be recognised for their efforts and accomplishments. We hope to see many of our staff members following in the path of Abeer.”
“Abeer has excelled in her role as Operations Manager of IBQ. It has therefore come as a no surprise to hear that she was selected out of the 10 finalists for the Qatari Businesswomen Awards – for the professional category to win the ‘Leadership Award’, as she surely deserves it.” added Nasra.
Abeer Al Emadi said: “I’m extremely happy and honored with the award and with the opportunity to represent IBQ at the ceremony. IBQ has provided me with the necessary training, development and the platforms to enhance my skills, talent and knowledge and be recognised at this prestigious event. This is certainly a huge motivational factor for me and my colleagues to give back a lot more to the bank.”
The Qatar Businesswomen Award was launched in December 2007 to identify and pay tribute to Qatari women who contribute to the society and economy through their professional and entrepreneurial achievements. The award focuses on women who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and managerial qualities in their work. The QBWA has succeeded in launching many activities and projects, such as the second Qatar International Businesswomen Forum which was held last May.
Abeer joined IBQ in April 1999 and has been a high performer ever since. Amongst Abeer’s greatest strengths are her leadership skills and ability to manage a pool of aspiring employees owing to her excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
Abeer’s determination has helped her rise above expectations with several young and ambitious Qatari women, at IBQ, looking up to her as a role model. She has proven her capability of rising to new challenges and through her long tenure with IBQ she has succeeded to develop an extensive understanding of the banking business.
“Abeer has never ceased to accept ad-hoc assignments and to deliver them effectively. We highly appreciate her willingness to take on additional work and responsibilities at all times. Abeer has also thrived to meet all the challenges that her job entails and to prosper in all aspects of the role. On behalf of IBQ, we congratulate Abeer and wish her the best.” ended Nasra.
