3rd annual University of Dubai job fair a success
The University of Dubai (UD) held its 3rd Annual Job Fair on March 19 at its campus in Deira. About 500 UD students and alumni visited 24 different companies made up of both regional and global organizations to inquire about open positions and internships. Students and alumni visited booths and attended presentations at the event, which filled the entire Mezzanine level of the university’s Masaood Building.
Many companies held interviews during the event and still more scheduled interviews for afterwards. Fourth-year student Davron Yusupov said he was very impressed with the job fair this year. “I’ve already received replies from Philips and Unilever,” Yusupov said. He attended three of the five company presentations that were given during the event, which was an additional feature this year. “Usually you just hand your CV to someone and don’t hear from them again. This was different, it was more informational and more interactive,” Yusupov said. He already had one interview with Philips Electronics and has a follow-up meeting scheduled.
Amina El Marzak, Director of Student and Alumni Affairs, said the companies did an excellent job of engaging the students and alumni. “Dozens of students have follow-up interviews, which speaks volumes about the high-caliber graduates UD produces.”
The University of Dubai holds some of the highest international accreditations, which means it consistently meets rigorous international standards so their degrees will be recognized by the most elite organizations around the world.
In an opening address to the crowd, UD President Dr. Omar Hefni said, “The support we receive from the Dubai business community is what encourages us to constantly improve our programs and strive for the very best in higher education. For many companies here today, I know you have branches not only in Dubai, but all over the world. That is why we teach business and computing not only from a regional perspective, but from an international one. For we know, the knowledge our students learn will eventually take them to great places all over the world and we are very happy that you are here today to help them take that first step.”
Dr. Hefni thanked all the companies that made the job fair possible: Philips Electronics, Unilever, General Civil Aviation Authority, Price Waterhouse Cooper, Mashreq, Bayt.com, Dubai Air Navigation Services, Dubai Financial Services, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, United Arab Bank, DP World, Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority, General Motors, KPMG, Xerox, Standard Chartered, Dubai Financial Services Authority, Middle East Communications Network, Gradberry, Eithad Airways, Ershaad.ae, Paris Gallery, Khalifa Fund and Ernst & Young.
