Dubai Women’s College (DWC), a Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) flagship institution, held recently the “2nd Alumnae Big Sisters’ Talk” event that was attended by 17 DWC Alumnae, who shared their DWC education and professional experience to help pave the way for 172 foundation level 3 students to succeed at DWC and beyond.

This event was organized for the second time and continues to commit to the idea of reconnecting DWC Alumnae with the college as 17 Alumnae volunteered to mentor 172 new Foundation students.

Organized by DWC Alumnae Association, Foundation Department and CAREERS, the “2nd Big Sisters’ Talk” appeared to be a good platform to many of the new students to start thinking about their future programs as they had the opportunity to listen to students presentations on different academic programs delivered at Dubai Women’s College.

Commenting on this, Rabia Bekhazi, Supervisor of CAREERS, said “In this increasingly competitive employment market there is no substitute for one-to-one advice, guidance and resourcefulness from people who went through the college experience and were transformed into successful professionals.”

In her welcome speech, Tarifa Ajaif, DWC Alumnae Board Member, a BA graduate of Business Administration in 2000, and currently working on her Ph.D., encouraged new students to start building their profiles by making use of every valuable opportunity, especially getting involved in voluntary work. Tarifa also emphasized the importance of gaining and enhancing soft skills such as professionalism, punctuality and self-management.

Sabiha Belyouha, Head of Marketing Events in Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, and Dubai Women’s College BA graduate in Information Management in 2009, was a source of inspiration to the group she mentored during the event as she shared valuable information and success stories with students, and advised them to study the programs that are highly desirable in the job market nowadays.
