Oman imported 2.2 billion Omani rials ($5.7 billion) worth of products in 2001, up from OR1.8 billion worth of goods in 2000, a 15 percent rise, reported Al-Hayat. The Omani Ministry of National Economy reported that the country with the largest amount of exports heading to the Sultanate was the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with OR632.7 million exports in 2001.
The Ministry also reported that the country’s exports dropped to OR4.3 billion ($11.1 billion) in 2001, down from OR4.4 billion in the previous year, a 2.2 percent fall. The decrease was attributed to gas and oil exports dropping from OR3.6 billion to OR3.4 billion, a 5.3 percent decrease during the same period.
The Sultanate’s nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP) totaled $15.12 billion during the first nine months of 2001, up 4.3 percent from the corresponding figure the previous year. — (menareport.com)
