Sheikh Salim bin Hilal al-Khalili, Oman's Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, has said that fisheries in the Omani regional waters was not affected by the Tsunamis, which hit a number of Asian states three weeks ago and reached the Sultanate’s coastal sector from Ras Al-Hadd to Dhofar Governorate.
In a statement published by Oman Arabic daily, Sheikh al-Khalili explained that no major damage was caused to ports in the Omani sector, save for slight damage to Raysut fishing jetty.
The Ministry conducted a comprehensive survey of the sector and assessed the impact of the phenomenon on the status of fishermen in the area. The Ministry signed an agreement last week for the study and analysis of maritime currents in the deep Omani waters.
