Membership in the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) representing the Building and Civil Constructions sector has nearly doubled since 1997. More than 5,300 members, accounting for over eight percent of the chamber’s total membership, are registered today, up from 2,818 six years ago.
The number of completed buildings in the private sector stood at 2,445 in 2001, up from 1,830 in 1999, while the number of completed flats in 2001 was 5,221. The combined value of all completed building projects in the private sector had risen from more than 5.5 billion Emirati dirhams ($1.49 billion) in 1999 to nearly Dh6.2 billion in 2001.
Government building work had also increased dramatically. 511 government houses were either completed or under construction in 2001, up from 186 in 1999. The total number of land transactions in Dubai stood at 3,198 in 2001 and the total value of land transactions in that year was Dh8.6 billion, up from Dh6.5 billion in 1999.
The recently inaugurated Dubai Building and Civil Constructions Business Group, the latest addition to a series of Dubai-based business groups, will elect a representative committee at DCCI on March 30, 2002. — (menareport.com)
