One of Britain's top architects has labelled the new buildings springing up in Dubai as "terrible". Speaking to a British architecture journal, Sir Michael Hopkins said the city was uninspiring architecturally and a difficult place in which to produce good design.
Local experts, on their part, said the criticisms are unfair, pointing at quality buildings such as the Burj Al Arab and Madinat Jumeirah. Dubai is not unique, they said, in having its share of poorly designed buildings.
