ALBAWABA - Netflix has appointed a noteworthy figure as its new head of its quickly growing gaming division. According to Variety, Alain Tascan, the former executive vice president for game development at Epic Games, has been appointed as the streaming company's new head of games.

Tascan was most recently Epic Games' executive vice president of game development, overseeing the creation of all first-party titles for the well-known franchises like "Fortnite," "Lego Fortnite," "Rocket League," and "Fall Guys." Tascan will be reporting right to Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters in his new position.

In addition to bringing a ton of critically acclaimed indie games to mobile devices, Netflix has purchased renowned indie developers Night School, Boss Fight, Next Games, and Spry Fox since establishing its gaming initiative in 2021.
Netflix executives said on the company's second-quarter earnings call that the company is already working on over 80 games, almost doubling its existing library of over 100 titles, as reported by Engadget.

With the release of a tie-in game and the upcoming debut of Emily in Paris's next season on August 15, for example, Netflix has more recently moved its emphasis to games that are associated to its most successful series. The company also said that a new game would be released on Netflix each month, The Verge reports.

Tascan was named Netflix's president of games a month following the streaming giant's announcement that Mike Verdu, former vice president of games at Netflix and veteran of Facebook and EA, would be moving into a new position centered on "transformative innovation in game creation and development."

Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters stated, Variety reports, in celebration of Tascan that “he has a passion for making great games and a proven track record of taking bold creative bets. We’re thrilled to have him leading Netflix Games.”

Tascan noted “I am honored and thrilled to build on the remarkable foundation that the talented games team here has laid,” adding “I firmly believe that Netflix is uniquely positioned to redefine the future of gaming.”
