The managing director of the Moroccan Office of Hydrocarbons and Mining (ONHYM), Amina Benkhadra, has said that Morocco is more optimistic over finding oil offshore, after neighboring Mauritania found oil in its territory. Benkhadra has said that experts are "convinced that the two neighboring off-shores are of similar geologically" and that this similarity makes it very probable that oil will be discovered also in the Moroccan region.
MAP reports that Morocco’s total oil imports and supply of oil reached US$2.6 billions in 2004, which means a US$260 millions increase, compared to 2003.
