The General Director of the Moroccan highway authority, the National Society for Highways in Morocco (ADM), reported that it had posted a MD562 million turnover during 2004, which marks a 14% increase in comparison to 2003. This significant increase was due to the rise in highway traffic, which rose by 18% in comparison to the previous year. However, despite this good performance, the company still registered in the end of 2004 a MD100 million deficit mainly due to the high finance charges.
MAP also reports that ADM is planning to extend the Moroccan highway network from its current 550 km to 1,500 km by 2010. The company is presently carrying out projects to link Fez (center) to Oujda (east); Marrakech (central south) to Agadir (central south-east); Asilah to Tangier and Tetouan to Fnideq (north).
