Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) Ahmed Nazif, accompanied by the Governor of Alexandria Mohamed Abdel Salam Mahgoub, inaugurated several projects last week as part of efforts to spread the use of IT in the Governorate.
The officials launched four new exchanges—the Mostafa Kamel Exchange with capacity of 59,000 lines, the Karmouz Exchange with a capacity of 25,000 lines, the Baheeg Exchange with a 2,000-lines capacity and the Abeess Exchange with a capacity of 2,000 lines.
The newly installed exchanges are expected to meet the needs in these locations, putting an end to waiting lists. The total number of lines serving the Governorate has now reached 960,000 lines.
In addition, five IT clubs were inaugurated in cooperation with Alexandria University. The Clubs are located in faculties of Commerce, Sciences, Pharmacy, the Community Service Center in Smouha and the College of Sports Education. Notably, the agreement with Alexandria University aims at spreading ITCs in the University campuses located in Marsa Matrouh, Beheira and Alexandria.
The number of IT clubs in the Alexandria Governorate has now reached 25 and four others are due to open soon, making more than 464 Personal Computers (PCs) available to users. The project is part of the Human Recourses Development Program at the CIT Ministry.
The MCIT also signed an agreement with the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce aiming at training Alexandria's youth on basic IT skills and encouraging them to acquire the International Computer Driving License (ICDL), offered by UNESCO office in Cairo. In addition the agreement aims at establishing a community service center catering for the Alexandria business community. — (menareport.com)
