Global and regional digital leader LG Electronics has introduced a breakthrough in air conditioning technology. The Multi Power System (MPS) combines multiple compressors in a single air conditioning system and reduces energy consumption up to 70 per cent, as opposed to conventional air conditioners with one compressor.
The system also reduces the noise and vibration of air conditioners. By adopting multiple small-capacity compressors, the system is quieter than air conditioners with one large compressor. The optimised piping design and low noise fans in the Multi Power System also minimise noise and vibration.
“The Multi Power System is a clear example of LG’s innovative approach to developing new technologies. Backed with such technological leadership, LG has retained its leading global position in air conditioners in terms of market share for five consecutive years since 2000,” said C H Lee, President, LG Electronics Gulf FZE.
According to leading Japanese market research consultancy Fuji-Keizai, LG sold more than ten million units in 2004 worldwide with 20 percent market share. Fuji-Keizai estimates the global air conditioner market to be worth US $ 52 million. LG aims to manufacture more than 12 million units in 2005.
The market value of the comfort and process-cooling sector in the GCC is estimated to exceed US$ 1.2 billion per annum in products and parts, and possibly double that in terms of associated products and services.
“Energy is the biggest component of operational costs in most businesses, underlining the need for solutions that reduce energy consumption and costs. Energy savings can pay for a substantial part of a building’s annual maintenance cost. The demand for energy management has been increasing in recent years and peaks with the onset of summer in the Middle East, as commercial users of energy begin to plan their energy budgets,” said Lee.
With LG’s Multi Power System, the air conditioning system intelligently gauges the room’s cooling or heating load and decides whether to use one or two compressors to achieve the desired temperature. When the cooling load is low or the room is close to the desired temperature, the system uses only one of the two compressors. When the cooling load is high, both compressors work to quickly attain the desired temperature. This efficient use of operating compressors enables the air conditioning system to run with a minimum amount of power.
“LG air conditioners score on account of flexible, compact installation, quiet operation and low energy consumption. We have maintained the number one position in more than 40 countries including important markets like USA, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Australia. We will continue to maintain our lead by introducing new technologies and products to suit market demands,” Lee added.
