ALBAWABA - Electricité du Liban (EDL) has declared that the total depletion of gas oil supplies led to the forced shutdown of the Zahrani plant's final operational power producing unit early today, August 17, 2024.
A statewide blackout resulting from this closure has affected vital infrastructure, including ports, airports, water pumping stations, sewage treatment plants, and prisons.
EDL stated in a statement that the plant's fuel supplies had run out, even though every preventative step that might have been taken to continue electricity generation under the current challenging conditions has been tried. The business is awaiting the results of continuing attempts by pertinent authorities to get gas oil, either from other sources or through the Iraqi exchange deal.
EDL promised to work on restarting the shut-down units and progressively restoring power to the entire country of Lebanon as soon as fresh fuel supplies are obtained. In its future remarks, the firm committed to keeping the public updated on any changes pertaining to the power situation.
