Kuwait Cement Co moved into the black in the first quarter of 2001 with a net profit of 545,388 dinars ($1.77 million), compared with a net loss of 1.703 million dinars in the same period last year.
The Kuwait Stock Exchange said in a statement on Wednesday, May 16, that earnings per share for the period rose to 1.45 fils, compared with a loss per share of 4.50 fils in the first quarter of last year. It did not give further details. There are 1,000 fils to the dinar ($3.25).
The company's shares closed on Wednesday up six fils at 198 fils, compared with a year high earlier in March of 146 fils. Kuwait Cement shares gained a total of eight fils, or 4.2 percent, in the current trading week to Wednesday. ― (Reuters, Kuwait)
