The Jordanian Health Minister, Musleh Al-Tarawneh, was quoted recently in Al-Iktissad Wal-Aamal magazine, stating that Jordan is the third largest Arab country in terms of health spending. According to the minister, the local per capita expenditures on health amount to JD 94 annually.
Last year, the local health authority paid JD 6.5 million to the private sector’s hospitals, and is expected to pay an additional JD 8 million this year.
Al-Tarawneh asserted that the kingdom has no intention to privatize the local health sector, and thus, there will be no debate about this sector neither in the cabinet nor in the health ministry.
