Morocco's textile sector lost 95,000 job opportunities, i.e. 78% of total layoffs reported in the industrial sector during the first quarter of this year, a High Commissioner for Planning (HCP) release, cited by MAP, has indicated.
Women are the social group who suffered most from this trend as recruited women rate went down by 30% in Q1 2005 compared to Q1 2004 (a loss of some 106,000 feminine jobs).
This drop is due to the removal of the quota system stipulated in the Multifiber Agreement, that expired on January 1.
The Moroccan textile sector, wich is responsible for some 33% of Moroccan exports and employs 200,000 people, posted a drop of 33% of its exports in January 2005.
