Israeli Prime Minister and Minister of Communications Ariel Sharon, and Minister of Finance Benjamin Netanyahu, are seeking a way to enable a merger between local cable TV companies.

A merger is advocated “in light of the benefits that may arise from such a move, in terms of the development of competition in multi-channel TV broadcasting and in telecommunications,” according to a ministry press release. Other important public interests that would reportedly be served by the conclusion of such a step include greater stability of the Israeli banking industry.

In the near future, the ministers intend to examine the feasibility of this move that was approved by the Cable and Satellite Television Council and by the Anti-Trust Supervisor. — (menareport.com)
